Full Slow Six Start
This is a collection of selected true touches of Stedman Triples up to 243 changes in length, with an indication of the musical content of each touch. The touches are listed in notation using a '-' for a plain six, B for a bobbed six and S for a single. The touches are in groups of each length, being arranged in order with plain sixes first, then bobs and then singles. The musical qualities were assessed for each touch by counting the rows ending in 46, 74 and 67, these three numbers following each touch. Touches containing Queens (1357246), Tittums (1526374) or Whittingtons (1275346) are indicated by Q, T or W respectively. For example, the touch of 84 changes: '--BB--BB---BB-' (call the 7th: positions 3, 4, 7, 8, 12, 13; or S L Q) contains nine rows ending in 46, three ending in 74 and three ending in 67, counting rounds once. This touch, written out by six-ends, is as follows:

This collection is in two groups. The first group consists of one-part touches, selected according to the number of musical rows ending in 46 and 74. The second group contains two-part touches up to 168 changes which were selected in the same way and two-part touches of 192 and 240 changes which were mainly selected from touches containing Queens, Tittums or Whittingtons but generally avoiding consecutive singles. Some other 192 and 240-change touches without singles were also included.

Touches of certain lengths are false if the usual start is used because they would end with a quick six containing some of the rows which occur at the beginning. This can be avoided by starting with a full slow six, like Erin. Note that the first calling position is at the handstroke before the start, as in Erin, so any call here is executed immediately at the start. The selection of touches in this collection contains lengths which cannot be achieved with the usual start. The starting positions are: 1 - mid-way throught the last whole turn. 2 - first half turn. 3 - out quick. 4 and above - the same as the normal start, but omitting the first dodge. |
